Happy Summer Solstice!
Our Summer Solstice is finally around the corner (Monday June 21st), and the opening of the seasonal Bay Area Farmers Markets are in full speed. Throughout San Francisco, from district to district, one can stumble upon your local street side Farmers Market and enjoy the taste of Summer!
These type of markets are one of the oldest forms of direct income for various small business owners, especially farmers. Globally — from the mercados in Mexico, to the unique street vendors in Asia — growers and merchants gather weekly to sell their produce directly to the public.
In the last decade the boom of these seasonal and year-round markets have spread throughout the Bay Area. Shopping at the local farmers markets is not only a great way to get fresh, flavorful produce but an opportunity to meet and support local farmers, strengthening local communities and reducing our carbon footprint.
Buying fresh, regionally grown produce is one major gift of being in such a culturally rich area, conducive to the organic lifestyle. From the famous Ferry Building Market through the Castro to Pacifica and back around through East Oakland, one can enjoy these treats. Make sure to make the time this summer for some delectable chocolate, juicy strawberries, warm bread and freshly homemade cheeses at a farmers local market near you. You wont be disappointed!
